First Source Federal Credit Union has been selected as the first place winner of the Credit Union Association of New York’s 2012 Dora Maxwell Social Responsibility Recognition Award for credit unions. The Social Responsibility Recognition Award honors credit unions for their involvement and achievements in community projects and activities.
First Source won first place in the $200 - $500 million assets category for the state of New York and will be presented at the Credit Union Association of New York’s 2012 Annual Meeting & Convention on June 8th in Bolton Landing, New York. Credit unions are divided into 7 categories based on asset size, at the state level, and the credit union league committee selects first place winners from each of the categories.
First Source’s entry portrayed its “People Helping People” philosophy by detailing the success of their sponsorship and involvement in the Ride for Missing Children. As the Luminary Sponsor of the Ride, First Source helped the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children by raising and donating over $29,200, printing 577,087 posters that recovered 453 children in 2011 and brought them home!

The Dora Maxwell Social Responsibility Recognition Award has honored credit unions for charitable work in their communities since its inception in 1987. The competition is named after credit union pioneer, Dora Maxwell, who worked with several organizations to improve the living standards of the poor and needy.
First Source’s winning entry will advance to the national competition, where it will compete with other projects from credit unions in the same asset category ($200 - $500 million) nationwide.
